Asbestos Removal/Management

Detection & Safe Asbestos Removal

As a hazardous substance, there are strict regulations about asbestos removal and disposal. It should only be removed by highly trained, licenced companies. Walther Environmental Ltd is experienced in dealing with this hazardous material and removing it under stringent safety conditions.

What is Asbestos?

There are three main types: chrysotile (white), amosite (brown), and crocidolite (blue).

Asbestos was widely used for fire protection, heat and sound insulation in homes and commercial buildings from 1930 to the mid 1990s. If you live or work in a building which was either built or renovated during these times, you may not see it, but there is likely to be asbestos in:

  • Warm air heating systems
  • Storage heaters
  • Lining for cupboards which house the central heating unit
  • Lagging for thermal insulation of pipes and boilers
  • Garage and shed roves
  • Heat-resistant household products such as ironing boards
  • Textured paints and plasters
  • Plastic floor tiles and cushion-flooring

Asbestos products are only dangerous when damaged, worn or disturbed because they can release dust fibres into the air, which cause lung diseases, including cancer
